Battle Of The Birds

A Team Competition

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

Have FUN while finding consistency!

The Battle Of The Birds is a 4-week team competition where you have the chance to earn points for your team through consistency with your fitness and lifestyle habits. There are rewards (a year of bragging rights being one of them), camaraderie, and shenanigans like none other. It’s NOT a fitness competition where your workout score matters, and it’s not a nutrition challenge where you have a specific food chart to follow. It is many members' most beloved SP challenge because of the fun and accountability it creates for building long-term consistency, especially during the summer months when we might not have all of our ducks in a row.

What’s new this year?

  • You’ll see a return of essential lifestyle habits like drinking water, walking, and eating more fruits and vegetables to go along with your fitness habits.
  • We’re rewarding those of you who participate in the TEAM version of the weekly Vault workouts! You can join the TEAM version of the Vault workouts with our Street Parking Coaches, fellow SP members, or someone close to your home.
  • It’s official: with the triumph of the Patos in 2023, we’ve officially renamed the “Julian vs. Miranda” challenge to the Battle of the Birds!

Who Can Participate

Any current Street Parking member.

  • For a non-SP member to officially join the Challenge, they must join SP first BY July 31st so they have time to register. Remember: it’s not guaranteed that they will be on the same team as you!

How It Works

Be consistent with your workouts and a few lifestyle habits: earn your team points.

There are a few ways to earn your points: Workouts, Grams, Water, Walking, Challenge Tester, and Bonus Points. You do the task, you log and earn your points = you contribute to your team.

The team with the most points at the end wins the coveted Golden Peacock Champion Tee. Of course, improving (or proving) your consistency in your fitness and lifestyle habits while having fun with your team is a win for everyone who participates.

About the teams: Gallos, Palomas, and Patos

First time participants do NOT choose your own team. Fate decides. You are randomly sorted into a team AFTER you register, and that’s your team… for life. (Check out REGISTRATION DETAILS for more info.)

Why are there birds? When we divided the community into teams for the first Julian vs. Miranda Challenge in 2018, we knew it would be like boxers getting into a ring. So next thing you know the personas – and the bird mascots – came to life. As the community grew, so did the Challenge – and in 2021, the Patos emerged as a third team to take on the Palomas and the Gallos. Year after year we find there’s nothing like some mascots to help you stay consistent, build team pride, and feel like you are part of something great.

How To Earn Points

This is a team challenge, so every point you earn for your team is one more point toward victory and that Golden Peacock tee! YOUR JOB: Do what you can each day to earn points to contribute to your team and to your consistency.

Movement Points

Complete Street Parking workouts daily, do the weekly TEAM Vault workout, walk for 10+ min daily, and tackle the Challenge Tester Workout to gain points for your team!

Workout Points

Any Street Parking workout = 1 point per day.

  • Yes, you can complete up to 6 workouts per week (meaning 1 workout on 6 separate days) but no, it is not required that you do 6. 1-5 workouts per week will still benefit your team.
  • No, doing more than one workout a day does not get you more points. 1 point per day. That’s it.
  • Yes, it must be a SP workout and yes, you can customize it.
  • No, Maintenance sessions do not count as a workout. Need that lower-intensity vibe? Try an Active Recovery session for a point! (Extra Programs > Specialty > Active Recovery)

Workout Options & Resources:

TEAM Vault Points

Complete the weekly Street Parking Vault TEAM Version workout = 1 point per workout.

  • Complete the TEAM version of the weekly Vault with an SP Coach, spouse, partner, kiddo, neighbor, fellow SP member, etc. and earn your team 1 additional point! Your teammate for these workouts does NOT have to be on the same team or even participating in the Battle Of The Birds Challenge overall for the point to count. And yes, you can customize the workout.
  • Need a partner? Coaches will go LIVE in the Battle Of The Birds FB Group weekly, or you can also do it over facetime, Zoom, or other social platforms.
  • You cannot do this multiple times to earn more points.

Coaches Live Schedule

Each week, an SP Coach will go live in the Battle Of The Birds FB Group. The live session will be saved in the FB group, so if you can’t join in real time, you can watch the playback and still earn a point for your team. We may tweak the Vault workouts for these live sessions to make them remote-friendly.

Walking Points

Walk for 10+ minutes a day = 1 point per day.

  • Must be 10+ minutes of consecutive walking, preferably outside if you can.
  • You can customize it by using a treadmill, bike, rower, etc., if you are injured or unable to walk.
  • Yes, you can walk more than 10 minutes.
  • Consider this your social media detox time for this challenge. Feel free to listen to a podcast, audiobook, or anything else, but no scrolling through Facebook or Instagram.

But can I log this?

The POINT of this task is to get you off social media and give your body a chance to decompress. This shouldn't be your workout for the day, which is why it isn’t loggable in the app. There's no need to add weight and turn it into a "ruck” or try to sneak it in as a workout session. Just go for a walk. 😉 If you do decide to ruck, do that for your Workout point and do this walking point separately.

Challenge Tester Workout Points

You’re spending four weeks working on fitness consistency, so why not see how you improve? And while you’re at it, you’ll earn points by completing the Challenge Tester workout two different times:

Week 1 = 1 point

Week 4 = 1 point

  • Yes, you can customize as needed.
  • It makes sense (but is not required) that you retest the same way as you completed the workout in the first week for an accurate comparison.
  • Yes, the Tester Workout will also count toward your Daily Workout points in the weeks it is scheduled.
  • No, you do not have to improve your score in order to earn the additional point.

How to find the Challenge Tester Workout:

  • It will be programmed on Friday, August 9th as the regular Daily/SHIFT workout
  • Week 1: can be done anytime during the week of August 5th–11th
  • Week 4: retest it during the week of August 26–September 1st

Fuel Points

Consume fruits and veggies and stay hydrated throughout the challenge to gain points for your team.

Grams Points

Consume 2+ cups OR 250g of fruits/veggies per day = 1 point per day.

  • You can use cups, grams or 1 closed adult fist to measure.
  • No, your french fries or deep fried brussel sprouts don’t count.
  • Canned, frozen, or fresh are good to go.
  • There is no partial credit for this task. If you miss a serving of fruit and/or vegetables (i.e., consume 1 of the 2 daily servings or only get 150g), skip logging the point for the day.

Water Points

Drink 50+ oz of water per day = 1 point per day.

  • The task requirement for EVERYONE is to consume 50 ounces of water daily. You are welcome to drink more water than suggested, but 50 ounces is the baseline for each day.
  • Consume actual WATER for this task. Sparkling water and water with additives (ex. protein shakes, low calorie sweeteners, coffee, tea) will NOT count toward the 50 ounce goal.
  • You're a grown adult and can decide whether you're drinking water or not — no need to ask for approval.😉

Bonus Points

Complete the weekly bonus point task and stay alert to earn some random pop-up points throughout the challenge!

Bonus Points

Each weekly bonus task varies in points each week so pay attention!

  • Each bonus task can only be completed once during the assigned week — not before, not after.

Week 1 (August 5th–August 11th) Bonus Task Details:

Week 2 (August 12th–August 18th) Bonus Task Details:

  • 5 bonus points if you skip booze this week.
    • #SorryNotSorry Gallos 😉
    • Yes, this requires an entire week of no alcohol. If you consume alcohol even once during the week, you won't earn any points.

Week 3 August 19th–August 25th Bonus Task Details:

  • 2 bonus points if ONE of your workouts this week is ANY session from the Street Parking Extra Programs.
    • Yes, this session will also count toward your Daily Workout points.

Week 4 August 26th–September 1st Bonus Task Details:

  • 5 bonus points If you consume protein at your first meal of the day.
    • What counts as protein?
      • We aren’t requiring you to weigh your food; just make sure to include some protein on your plate.
      • This can be a whole food source or liquids like a protein shake, smoothie, etc.
      • It should be predominantly protein (ex. peanut butter with a small amount of protein doesn't count).

Pop-Up Points

We reserve the right to to throw random Pop-Up Points throughout the challenge. These would be tasks where you could earn extra points for your team, but you would ONLY have 24-48 hours to complete and log. Pop-Up Points would be shared on social media and in your email.
